ADIOS EARL!!!

thankfully, once again the hurricane hype has exceeded the reality but that isn’t such a bad thing. when it comes to tropical events like EARL, it is best to prepare for the worst and hpoe for the best. so far on the northern beaches the damage reports have been pretty minimal. i haven’t heard of any overwash in KDH yet. from what i’ve heard, alot of resources were hard at work getting the OBX ready for the Labor Day weekend, thank you Ms Perdue. the beach was being pounded by large waves yesterday so there were no surf fishing reports. no boats went out. give things a day or two to settle down and fishing should get back to normal. oregon inlet bridge was supposed to open this morning at 7a.m. word is that there is water on highway 12 at the usual spots but the road is passable. be careful, take it slow and TAKE A KID FISHING !!! coolbreeze out

EXIT DANNI, ENTER EARL!!!

life is good so far. most computer models show EARL turning north before approaching the carolinas which basically gives us here on the outer banks a high wind, heavy rain event. was in the water a little while yesterday – a bit murky but comfortable at around 78 degrees. saw lots of bluefish, spot and sea mullet. shot 11 triggers, some real fat. conditions for surf and pier fishing are good today. if you have the opportunity to go today or wednesday, DO IT, cause by thursday the weather will go down the tubes. hearing some chatter about rockfish in the sound. TAKE A KID FISHING!!! coolbreeze out

DANNY’S WEEKEND!!!

the forecast for the weekend is for WAVES. thankfully that system isn’t coming anywhere near here, but the surfers are already salivating over the swells that are predicted to arrive. expect the fishing to get stirred up along with the beach.
the offshore guys have been having a really good week – whites have been caught in double digits with sailfish and blue marlins mixed in, mahi have been good, but tuna not too much.
inshore boats are getting tired of all the bluefish ( summertime…. who would have guessed bluefish? ). am still hearing of those big drum outside the inlet – they’ve really made this summer interesting to say the least. triggerfish and sheepshead are around the wrecks and pilings.
out of surf and from the piers, spot, blues and sea mullet are the main fare. this should be a productive weekend for puppy drum from the beach – they love rough water. flounder have been decent lately – interestingly they have been caught on leadheads in the surf, kind of like trout fishing (which has been monumentally crappy this year – i guess it can only get better, right?!? we’ll see ). who cares that summer is almost over? enjoy the weekend weather. TAKE A KID FISHING!!! coolbreeze out

Fishing the Sandbar

It seems to be cooling down, the roads less busy, and the days growing shorter. Summer is almost over, but the fishing isnt going anywhere.

Offshore had nice numbers of White Marlin, Mahi-Mahi, with some Wahoo. Inshore plenty of blues, Spanish are still around, Flounder, with reports of nice Red Drum. Piers are still grapping Spot, Blues, Croaker, and Spanish Mackeral. Wind is more like a breeze today WNW. Water is clear and around 78 degrees.

FALL IN AUGUST!!!

we have customers in the store asking if we have windbreakers. ” sorry, we do have sweatshirts “, i said. it’s not cold but it is somewhat amusing to see the lifeguards on their stands all bundled up and hating life in august.
still choppy surf conditions out there. the piers are still taking bluefish, spot and sea mullet. the water looks like it would be good for puppy drum. i have heard of keeper flounders coming out of the surf lately – they were taken on leadheads just like you would fish for specks. some of the offshore boys went out of oregon inlet yesterday – several marlin were released, a few mahi-mahi were taken, but no tuna were reported. good news for beach fishing, bodie island spit ( on the north side of O.I. ) has been reopened to vehicle traffic. long overdue, i say. this would probably be a good day for green island slough and propeller slough.
take a kid fishing and find out. coolbreeze out
