GO FOR IT!!!

as far as summer weekends go, this one has the potential for being a good one. wind is ESE at 10-15, surf temp is running about 78-80 degrees and the water clarity is good. yesterday morning before work, i was at this years favorite beach dive spot and scored my limit of triggerfish in 30 minutes. that’s alot of dinners to look foward to this winter. calling around today, the piers have been decking lots of spot and sea mullet, especially on the incoming tide, and blues and spanish macs. oregon inlet is looking real pretty for the flounder pounders and the inshore boats. the weather window looks good for the weekend so TAKE A KID FISHING!!! coolbreeze out

SPECKLED TROUT STATE RECORD!!!

o k, i lied, it has been hard enough just getting reports of keepers around here, but we need to get your attention somehow.
the only reliable reports we can get for sound fishing around here is from the little bridge and they’re still saying spots and croakers. i did weigh a 10#8oz sheepshead saturday morning boated by Hunter Faithful of
New Bern. he and his dad were fishing the bridge at pirates cove using sand fleas. i also heard of a large school of puppy drum cruising the sound this weekend behind nags head woods ( pretty much all undersized ).
apparently the offshore fleet have been wacking the mahi-mahi and also releasing good numbers of white marlin this week but the tuna were a bit scarce.
inshore boats are having a good summer. that school of big red drum continues to provide some exciting catch and release action. nice sized cobias are doing the filet and release thing as they try to make their way south.
piers and surf reports are mostly bluefish, spots and sea mullet. those who will work the pilings and wrecks may catch triggers, spades and sheepshead ( use small strong hooks w/small baits that will fit in a small mouth ).
please come in and tell us your fish stories and most important, TAKE A KID FISHING!!! coolbreeze out

SUMMER’S OVER?!?!

colleges and universities are cranking up, public schools will start soon after. that means we see less families the closer we get to labor day, but the good news is the mullet run will kick in real soon – hopefully we’ll see some decent numbers of ocean specks following the mullets.
right now the summertime high pressure is kicking in again. surf temp is about mid 70s and expected to drop and the swell should start to knock down too. sea mullets, spots and bluefish are dominating the surf and pier fishing reports. offshore boats are keeping their customers happy with steady numbers of mahi and yellowfin. marlin catches are very respectable. now, if only the sounds could start shaking out some decent fish ( i’m not holding my breath yet ). TAKE A KID FISHING!!! coolbreeze out

HEATIN’ UP THIS WEEKEND!!!

congrats to all the players in the Pirates Cove Tournament. the weather was good and a fine time was had by all – there was even a grand slam reported. surf is a little choppy today but it is fishable – off the beach spots, sea mullets and bluefish for the most part with a few flounders mixed in. conditions have been favorable on the piers – some interesting stories filtering in. lots of blues and all the spots you want at times. two nice king macs yesterday at avalon, some cobes early at nags head, it looks to hold steady all weekend. inshore boats might struggle today, tomorrow should be better. dolphins, yellowfins and billfish are on the offshore menu this weekend. tear ‘em up – take a kid fishing!!! coolbreeze out
